We believe well designed gardens should strengthen our connection to home and nature.

By crafting unique spaces that sit beautifully in the landscape and link strongly to the house and those who share it, we foster a sense of place that encourages presence, engagement and expresses personality.

Our designs embrace beauty and abundance, combined with clean lines and structural features, drawing in nature and enhancing sensory experiences.

Regular exposure to beautiful gardens and nature can boost wellbeing and increase your sense of connection to the natural rhythms and seasons.

We provide a range of services from consultations to full designs so if you’re considering a garden transformation then we’d love to discuss it with you.

Profile

SynergyScape was founded by Bob Goodman, a landscape professional with over a decade of total immersion in gardening and landscape development. Originally a professional musician with an honours degree in popular music and training in classical and jazz, Bob's passion for landscaping grew while living in West Cork, Ireland, where he worked as a gardener and played in a folk band. Inspired by the beauty of the scenery and diverse terrain and planting in the semi-tropical climate, he pursued a career in horticulture and landscape after returning to the UK.

Bob’s background includes experience working in garden maintenance, both for private customers and at esteemed public gardens such as Trentham and RHS Bridgewater, working for landscaping companies, and several years of self-employment. He holds an MA in Landscape Management from the University of Sheffield, where he was taught by renowned planting experts like James Hitchmough and Nigel Dunnett who designed the meadows at the London Olympic Park. This experience shaped his approach to landscape design, focusing on natural processes, biodiversity, and climate resilience while keeping people and aesthetics at the forefront.

Key Expertise:

  • Gardening & Maintenance: Extensive experience in garden maintenance for private clients and public gardens, with a focus on reliable, appropriate planting schemes suited to the conditions of the site. This results in intentional designs with well-chosen planting and consideration of the garden’s functionality and flow.

  • Meadow Specialism: A lifelong passion for meadows, with expertise in designing and establishing wildflower meadows that enhance biodiversity. Bob completed a Specialist Horticultural Placement in Turf and Meadows at RHS Bridgewater and has designed meadows for the National Trust and private gardens, with high impact and low maintenance.

  • Landscaping: Practical knowledge of construction techniques and materials, gained from several years of working with landscaping firms and own business design and builds. This informs the elegant, yet robust design of structural features and appropriate specification.

  • Music & Design: Bob applies his musical background to landscape design, drawing parallels between rhythm, harmony, and repetition in music and the structure and layout of gardens. His understanding of counterpoint, dynamics and improvisation helps create nuanced, dynamic, harmonious spaces.

What this means for clients: Bob combines technical expertise, creative inspiration, and a deep understanding of plants, meadows, and construction to deliver landscapes that are sustainable, beautiful, and tailored to each client's needs.
